my name is Gabe McClintock. i am an observer. i am a photographer. i am a dreamer. i am a traveler. i am a husband and most importantly i am a Dad. i shoot anything and everything. i capture the connections between people. the connections between families and the connection within yourself. i tell stories through imagery. i hope you like my stories enough to let me tell yours.
this is their story. this is my story.

take the time

no matter what you've done for yourself or for humanity, if you can't look back on having given love and attention to your own family, what have you really accomplished. - lee Iacocca

it’s important for me to get out. get out with Jen. get out with Aisha. get out as a family and just enjoy life. i feel we all get caught up with work sometimes. we spend too much time on Twitter, on Facebook on Chat, having digital relationships with digital friends, instead of experiencing a true human connection. a connection with loved ones. with family. we need to enjoy the company of those closest to us more. we need to make more time for family. i needed this outing for myself. for my family. for my girls. with another one on the way in less then three months, it will be more important then ever to make that time to be together. to slow down the race of life and enjoy my family. take the time because no one ever says, i’d wish I’d spent more time at the office.

a year ago i sat and watched Ron Dawson talked about the importance of showing clients who you are on a personal level during his WPPI presentation. i knew then a promotional video was something that i wanted to have. something i wanted for my business. it would allow viewers to get to know who i am before they met me. it would give my online presence a personal feeling. i wanted a video that showed what was important to me. what my goal is to capture while i shoot. it had to give viewers a glimpse into who i am. so Ron flew up from Atlanta to create a promotional video for me. he understood what my goal was. he understood what i wanted to capture. i wanted substance over style and he was able to give me both.

…………………………………..

so here i am. doing what i love. taking about what i love to do.

i smiled

as i sat there looking out the window of the plane, i smiled. i smiled because of the job i get to do. i smiled because the connection i had just witnessed the day before. i smiled because of the family i had waiting for me when i landed. i smiled because i am living a blessed life. a life that only a few years ago seemed out of reach. a life that allows me to stay at home, to see my daughter grow up, to have spontaneous holidays with my wonderful wife, a life that allows me to capture and witness beautiful connections year round with strangers who turn into friends. i smiled. i smiled because it’s my life.

imperfect perfection

slow down and everything you are chasing will come around and catch you - john de paola

as our cameras improve beyond what many of us thought was possible only a few years ago, it seems many of us, myself included, are looking to go back to that imperfect perfection that certain cameras of the past provided us. the colors aren’t as saturated. the images aren’t so sharp you can count pours. but there is something very relaxing, comforting, even soothing when looking at an image created by what may now be considered an imperfect median. the colors are soft. the images are soft. the feeling is soft. and while i understand digital is here to stay…i will always have a love for warm, soft, inviting imagery created on imperfect formats (or maybe it is the perfect format)

all images created with the Polaroid 600 SE and a 127mm F4.7 lens

yesterday i received an email telling me that i had been chosen by weddingbells magazine as one the top 25 photographers in Canada. 2009 was an incredible year. it was a year of learning. a year of new friendships. a year of new additions. it was a year filled with amazing couples who invited me into their lives to share their story. to share their connection and their celebration with the world.

this recognition is because of them.

Chris: I've always believed that what distinguishes Gabe's photos from other photographer's is that while they take pictures Gabe captures moments in time. Carl: Congrats dude...well deserved. 01.27.2010
